About Susan Koenig, LCSW

"Therapy is a mindful exploration of the Self where you choose the pace."

- Susan Koenig

I am a clinical social worker with over 20 years experience in the area of interpersonal violence and trauma. I hold an advanced training certificate in Contemplative Psychotherapy. Using mindfulness based, embodied therapy, I have had the privilege of working individually and in groups with children, adolescents and adults. The belief that a trusting therapeutic relationship can help make lasting, positive changes in people's lives is the foundation of my work as a therapist.

My areas of clinical expertise include:

  • Teaching mindfulness practice to aid in regulating and coping with difficult emotions, including anxiety and depression.
  • Validating and supporting individuals at any stage of the coming out-process with respect to sexual orientation and gender identity.
  • Teaching adolescents "thriving-skills" to replace self-injurious behavior (because do we merely want to cope, or do we want to thrive? I'm going with thrive!)
  • Supporting parents as they navigate the often choppy waters with their adolescents. Click on Group Information on the right for current support groups.
  • Helping clients uncover their strengths and be their authentic selves!

Other things about me:

  • I am currently a High School Social Worker, working with adolescents with a myriad of issues and circumstances. Adolescence is a time of great growth emotionally and physically. Working with teens is one of my favorite things to do.
  • As a social worker I believe strongly in social justice and being the change we wish to see in the world (thank you Mahatma Ghandi). When it comes to accessing services and programs in the community, if I don't know an answer, I know how to get it.
